Before we had even started loading the truck, we had problems. SFU had called - e-mail was down. Since Shaw had been very diligent in cutting off my high-speed Internet first thing in the morning, I had no easy way of accessing the SFU systems. So Jeff went wandering down the street looking for an open WiFi network. Half way down the street he found one, so I went down there, notebook in hand, to fix SFU's problems. I sat in the street for at least a half hour working on it.
Meanwhile, the rest of the gang was loading the truck. This went on for a several hours. By 3pm, they needed a lunch break and I needed to take another load of garbage to the dump. By 4:30pm, we were loading again. At this point, I sent Mike ahead to the new house because I had arranged to have Shaw show up at the new house at 6pm to connect up our Internet and it was clear we weren't all going to make it there by then.
By about 6pm, we were finally loaded up. Eve took great pleasure in pointing out that I previously said it would only take 3 or 4 hours to load the truck (everything was already in the garage ready to go! What could be easier?!?). We locked everything up, said our final goodbyes and bid our old house goodbye.
Fifteen minutes after leaving, I remembered that we had forgotten the tablesaw and drill press bench in the sub-basement! "Guess I'll be coming back for another trip!"
When we arrived at the house, Mike's first comment was "I'm guessing this house was owned by short Vietnamese people". Eve's was "What's that smell?!?". Wendy's was "Steve! There's wood under the crappy flooring!!"
Unloading went a lot quicker. 3 hours and we were done. That was still too long for Brian though, who was supposed to be somewhere else by 7pm. He assured us he'd be in hot water because of it.
After unloading, we all headed down to Spaghetti Factory for a very filling meal. Finally, at midnight, Mike very graciously agreed to drive out to Abbotsford with me and get the tablesaw & workbench. We dropped the UHaul truck off in Surrey on the way and then went out in our van. It went pretty smoothly and by 4am, I was finally home.
