Work moves outside

The weather has been great for the last few weeks in Vancouver. Some rain still falls of course, but, for the most part, it's been warm and dry. That means that we've really turned our attention now to the outdoor tasks.

We were going to try to get Kayleigh's room completed before her birthday, but the job of jacking up the front of the house proved much larger than I had hoped (so what else is new?). Because much of the wood was soft and not capable of bearing load, most of the front walls had to be rebuilt to prevent the hydraulic jack from just sinking into the deck when I tried to raise the house. That work is mostly done now - here's a picture of the house with the two new corner posts installed

While I worked on the front porch, Wendy tackled the main floor back porch. What a mess - rot everywhere! We're still trying to decide how the back deck will look. We have to tie in a new staircase with a covered area over the entrance way to the back suite, the new hot tub, and a lower deck around the tub.
